Trevor Castiglione – Councillor Candidate Town of Orangeville
How long have you been an Orangeville Resident?
I have lived in Orangeville 40 plus years. I have owned managed and operated businesses and properties in Orangeville in that time. I am very involved in our community with things such as Toys for Tots, food drives for the Orangeville Food Bank, holiday dinners for seniors where we make sure seniors have a home cooked holiday meal made for them and delivered to them where they would otherwise be alone or not be able to enjoy one. I believe in supporting local charities and help fundraise for many events. I have lived in this great Town of Orangeville from a very young age and have seen this town change drastically over the past 40 plus years.
What would you change and/or improve in Orangeville?
We have had growth in the residential sector however industry in this town has been on a decline over the years causing a financial burden on the residential taxpayers. I have seen many businesses come and go over the years, I think that needs to change. We need to find ways to stabilize our economic development to help off set the taxes for our residents. We need to help promote our existing businesses to enhance their growth and prosperity to increase employment and show future industry that we encourage and support growth within our town. Instead of hindering our current businesses we need to promote and help them to maximize their potential which will in turn increase local jobs, bring in new business and help ease the tax burden on residential rate payers. In the end more desirable area to live which will increase property value.
If you were to receive a million dollar grant for the Town of Orangeville, what would you do with it and why?
I would look into creating programs and events for our youth, be it arts, culture or events.
We are a very sports oriented town, we need to look towards the future of our youth and have programs and events to keep them engaged in our community. We need to start paving the way now for years to come. By engaging our youth now we are setting up future generations to continue raising their families here.
What is your favourite place in Orangeville and why?
Many different places I love in Orangeville but I would have to say my favorite and the best food in Orangeville would be Souylive in my opinion, great food even better people that work hard to give back and help in our community, which will be another great place closing soon and such a huge loss to Orangeville with all the community events and charities Souylive/ Philip DeWar have done over the years.
Another one of my favorite places over the past 4 years would be town hall attending the majority of council meetings and speaking up about many issues of which only ” one ” other candidate attended the majority of meetings other then MYSELF not including the one trying to get re-elected of which I am not sure he was even there really at times. The current councils 2014-2018 total lack of respect for one another and most importantly the tax payers of Orangeville that they gave all of us with the agendas many of them had and the personal vendettas also the total disregard for spending of the tax payers money.
Orangeville is a great town I have called home majority of my life over 40 years with many people that care about the community we live in lets get it back on track.
I have lived in Orangeville 40 plus years and in that time I have owned managed and operated businesses, properties and buildings in Orangeville, I attended what at one time was called Springbrook Elementary School and Orangeville District Secondary School ODSS, I have also done post secondary courses. My Family has lived in and around Orangeville for many years. I know I can help tighten the reigns on the over spending and see things from a more logical down to earth point of view from a resident and small business owners frame of mind. I am involved in our community with many things- Toys for Tots, food drives for the Orangeville Food Bank, holiday dinners for seniors. I believe in supporting local charities and help fundraise for many events. I have a number of Social media pages where public events local news weather warnings and more go out to the public daily. For many years I have been speaking up about the many issues that face Orangeville and attending council meetings and questioning council and staff members on some of their decisions.
