Tony Rosa Area Councillor Candidate for Ward 5 (Town of Caledon)

Tony RosaIf elected how/what would you do to improve Active Transportation within Caledon and how would you improve existing connections between communities?

I am committed to improving our transportation plan. We need to work closely with the City of Vaughan and the City of Brampton to create a links that will offer additional community connections. The lot at Hwy. 50 and Mayfield Rd. can be used more effectively to create these connections by offering additional service times. In addition, my goal is to introduce a student shuttle service that will operate in the spring/summer months. This shuttle can provide much needed connections to Vaughan Mills Mall, Canada’s Wonderland and the new Vaughan Subway line. I will also be committed providing additional funding to Caledon Community Services to improve their transportations service offerings.

What will you do to bring in new business that can thrive in Caledon and how will you help existing small businesses succeed?

We need to establish a small business association that focuses on local business promotion and networking. Introducing a business directory and implementing Wayfinding Signs on roads will promote the locations of our small businesses. In addition, I am committed to creating and planning new special events that will keep our residents in Town. Creating annual events that focus on community engagement and increased Tourism will also support our local businesses. Bringing back Bolton Midnight Madness was an example of this initiative. We need to introduce a season of events moving forward.

There has been a lot of discussion with respect to truck traffic in Caledon and the danger it poses on our main roads. If elected what do you plan to do to address these concerns?

Building more infrastructure to handle the truck traffic needs to be a priority moving forward. I will be committed to this plan. We need to stop the expansion of trucking industries in Bolton and across Caledon. Road safety is a top priority that needs immediate attention. Too many lives have already been lost on our roads. We need a road safety plan that works! I will advocate for the expansion of the 427 north of Major Mackenzie to ease some of the pressure on our roadways.

What will you do to ensure council works together in the new term?

In order to ensure that our council works together, we need to respect the priorities of all wards and support each other by ensuring no area is left behind. I recognize that each community in Caledon is unique and each area has a wide variety of needs. As a Council, we need to respect the views and opinions of all council members in order to get the job done and move our communities forward. This message needs to be promoted throughout the new term.

Previous Questions and Answers:

How long have you been a Caledon Resident?

I have lived in Caledon for 20 years.

What would you change and/or improve in Caledon?

I find our current Town Council divided. It is time to focus on a “fair share” philosophy that builds unity and community. A “Team” approach will help move all of our communities forward.

If you were to receive a million dollar grant for the Town of Caledon, what would you do with it and why?

I would use the grant funds to improve facilities for Arts and Culture. Our community deserves it! Most of our Arts organizations are currently renting facilities in other municipalities due to the lack of spaces in Caledon. This type of investment helps build unity and community.

What is your favourite place in Caledon and why?

As a child I loved going to Albion Hills Conservation area for picnics. It is still one of my favourites places to visit. It’s a great place to spend quality time with family and friends. Love the pool area!
