French Onion Soup Recipe
Mira’s French Onion Soup Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3 Large onions cut lengthwise
- 2 Sprigs Thyme
- 2 Bay Leaves
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 2 Garlic Cloves Minced
- 4 Cups Beef Broth
- 2 Cups Water
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 Baguette
- 12 slices of Gruyère Cheese

French Onion Soup With Grated Gruyere Cheese
In a heave duty pot combine melted butter, onions, thyme, bay leaves, salt, and minced garlic. Cook on medium heat for a half an hour or until onions are golden brown and stirring frequently. Stir in flour for a half a minute. Add wine, broth, water and pepper and simmer on low to medium heat for 20 minutes. Remove bay leaves and thyme, lower heat and simmer for an extra 10 minutes while you prepare the baguette.
Baguette preparation: Preheat oven to 350º. Place diagonally sliced pieces on oven rack for 15 minutes.
Fill crock bowls with soup, place two slices of dry baguettes in soup and top with 3 slices of gruyère cheese making sure cheese hangs over crock.
Broil in oven for 2-3 minutes or until cheese is melted as desired. Makes 4 Servings.
For vegetarian French Onion Soup be sure to use vegetable broth instead of beef broth.
