HAPPY CANADA DAY! History of Canada Day

On July 1st Canadians all across the country celebrate Canada Day.

The date of July 1st was chosen because that’s the date the British North America Act, today known as the Constitution Act, created Canada in 1867.

A year later, on June 20th 1868, a request was made by Governor General Lord Monck to celebrate Canada on July 1.

In 1879 a federal law made July 1 a statutory holiday as the “anniversary of Confederation,” which was later called “Dominion Day,” and on October 27, 1982, July 1, “Dominion Day” officially became Canada Day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CANADA

AND HAPPY CANADA DAY TO ALL CANADIANS ALL AROUND THE WORLD!
