In 2019-2020, the Town of Caledon (led by the Energy and Environment Division) will prepare a comprehensive and practical community Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP).

The purpose of the Climate Change Action Plan Task Force (CCAP-TF) is serve in an advisory role to provide staff with assistance and advice on the development of the Town’s CCAP.

The CCAP will include actions and strategies for reducing community-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improving the adaptive capacity and resiliency of the community to cope with and adapt to the local impacts of climate change.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Manager, Energy and Environment, this role is responsible for supporting the monitoring and implementation of the Town of Caledon’s Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation strategies. The Specialist, Climate Change will involve community initiatives to increase adaptive capacity to extreme and changing weather patterns and reduce community greenhouse gas emissions.

This role will coordinate information and act as a liaison, between various orders of the local, regional, provincial, federal government and municipal stakeholders; develop and lead community education programs; conduct research to determine best practices; provide technical advice on incorporating climate change priorities into the Town’s Official Plan. The Specialist, Climate Change will also prepare and submit grant applications to leverage Federal and Provincial funding to implement climate change adaptation and mitigation projects.

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a professional with a post-secondary degree in Environmental Science/Studies, Climate Change or closely related field with three (3) to five (5) years related experience in environmental management and/or community-based climate change mitigation and adaptation. The Ideal candidate has excellent verbal and written communication skills including writing successful grant applications, analytical skills, and demonstrated knowledge of Federal and Provincial climate change policies and legislation Computer proficiency in MS Office is required.

This position offers a salary range of $69,112.77 – $81,731.34 plus a competitive benefit package.
